    Over 100 years ago, Ambrose Steinwand opened a new cheese factory one mile south and one mile west of Colby. The event of a new cheese factory was not unusual, for it was built in a strong dairy area. What would make this factory stand apart from the others was the development of a dairy product that became the only natural cheese native to the United States.

  • Two Rivers: REAL Birthplace of the Ice Cream Sundae Learn

    Two Rivers is recognized by the Wisconsin State Historical Society as the REAL birthplace of the ice cream sundae. There is a Sundae Week every summer, and the city gathers in Central Park for an old fashioned band concert and ice cream social during the annual Sundae Thursday.

    Cows on the Concourse is a FREE, annual and family-friendly event that kicks off June Dairy Month in Dane County. Kids and adults can meet and greet cows and baby calves from local dairy farms. We invite you to stop by Cows on the Concourse as you peruse the Dane County Farmers’ Market. Come enjoy the live music, tasty food, fun games and real, live cows!

  • Green County Cheese Days – Agri-Tourism See

    Green County Cheese Days is the oldest food fest in the Midwest, honoring cheesemaking, dairy farming, and Swiss heritage. Since 1914, Monroe’s Historic Courthouse Square has served as the scenic backdrop to the festival grounds, and the celebration attracts crowds of revelers ready to yodel, polka, and consume cheese by the truckload. Highlights of the weekend include entertainment stages, street dances, old time cheesemaking demonstrations, parades, dairy farm tours, cheese tent, and cheese sampling.

  • Sparta Butterfest Play

    SPARTA FESTIVALS was incorporated on February 14th, 1984. It was formed for the purpose to raise funds and conduct fundraising projects for the advancement of the general welfare of the City of Sparta. In 1984 the festival was called Sparta Fest Days. In 1985 it was changed to Sparta Butter Festival as Sparta was well known for it’s State Award Winning Butter Makers who worked at the local milk plant. A few years later it was changed to Sparta Butter Celebration and in 1992 it was changed to Sparta Butterfest.

  • Wisconsin State Cow Chip Throw and Festival Play

    Approximately 40,000 people attend The Wisconsin State Cow Chip Throw each year. The current Wisconsin Cow Chip Throw state record is 248 feet. Two stages of free entertainment, arts and crafts fair, 5K & 10K Run and much more! Friday night and Saturday of Labor Day weekend.
