While Door County has much to offer its residents and visitors alike, Fish Creek has made its mark as the “heart of the county’s artistic life.” Fish Creek is home to the County’s oldest professional summer theater, Peninsula Players; The Peninsula Music Festival; American Folklore Theater; and the Peninsula Art School, not to mention the Door Community Auditorium, which hosts many well-known artists and shows each year. Fish Creek also enjoys a rich historical heritage. By 1853 Asa Thorp, known as the founder of Fish Creek, owned much of the land in the village and had begun building a pier from which he could sell cordwood to the Steamers traveling on Lake Michigan. Fish Creek has a large variety of lodging options to choose from, making accommodations plentiful for all visitors! Fish Creek also features the entrance to Peninsula State Park (a DW Favorite WI Campground). This park is a year-round haven for bikers, hikers, runners, campers, cross country skiers, beach lovers and many more. Visitors come back year after year to enjoy the wide variety of shops, galleries and restaurants as well as the charm of the quaint village. After dining in one of Fish Creek’s fine establishments, the city beckons you to take a stroll down to the marina, where you can view the many pleasure boats moored there before you sit down to relax on the village beach. In this episode of Discover Wisconsin we’ll take a waterside tour of a shore in Wisconsin that offers everything you could want in a vacation. We’ll show you the ways the Sunset Shore of Door County provides relaxation, physical activity, beautiful scenery, fabulous shopping, arts and crafts activities as well as exquisite dining. We’ll watch a concert in the park and sail along the shore in Egg Harbor at sunset while the wind blows through our hair. We’ll head to Fish Creek for a tour of the state’s “most complete park,” Peninsula State Park, before we tour the town’s many attractions including their exquisite wine tasting and art activities. Then we’ll head up the shoreline to Ephraim where we’ll play, parasail, swim and visit their many famous art galleries. Finally we’ll end our journey in Sister Bay with their fun-filled Blossom Festival and a legendary family owned business that keeps people coming back year after year. You’ll definitely be delighted when we discover “the Door’s” Sunset Shore. |
