This episode of Discover Wisconsin begins with an introduction a state-wide auto trail plan, The Great Wisconsin Birding and Nature Trail initiative. We’ll explore a portion of one of the completed auto trails, the Lake Superior Northwoods Region, with our host, Stephanie Klett. She’ll take you on a hike through the Powell Marsh Wildlife Area in Manitowish Waters to see some of the hundreds of avian species that make Powell Marsh their home. We’ll also meet a birding club and learn about bird banding at the North Lakeland Discovery Center, and visit the town of Manitowish Waters to enjoy the fun of their annual fall event, Cranberry Colorama. We’ll take a pontoon boat ride to enjoy the beautiful fall colors on the Manitowish Waters’ 10-lake chain, and go to the Alder Lake Cranberry Marsh to experience cranberry harvesting at the height of the season. We’ll discover a nearly endless array of bird watching spots for hikers and paddlers deep in the wilderness of the Boulder Junction area. With our host, Stephanie Klett, you’ll find that birding is an excellent way to discover Wisconsin. |
