Civil War Living History Festival

May 18

| Free

This community festival with activities for all ages kicks off on Saturday at 7 AM with a pancake breakfast in Goodrich Park. Guests are invited to wander the park and Milton House grounds as they interact with Civil War era soldiers and civilians camped out for the weekend. Reenactment tours of the Milton House, the last certified Underground Railroad Station in Wisconsin able to be toured, will be available throughout the day. Guests will be welcomed to the hotel as though they are travelers checking during the 1861, when the hotel was a lively stagecoach inn, then will be secreted to the cellar where they will meet a freedom-seeker on her way to Canada. (Please sign up in advance to participate in these tours.) On the Milton House campus, the encamped company will provide military drill and canon fire demonstrations throughout the day. Historical interpretations of landmark speeches are presented at 1 PM (Sojourner Truth ‘Ain’t I A Woman’) and 2:30 PM (Abraham Lincoln/Stephen Douglas Debates). Click on the links for more information on Sauvignon and Suffragettes: A Winery Tour of Milton or Historic Pub Crawl of Milton Junction.
Sunday will open with a breakfast in Goodrich Park beginning at 8 AM followed by a military-style worship service at 10 AM in the Milton House Stable. Cannon firings will continue throughout the day. Sunday will also include a guided walking tour of the Milton Junction Cemetery. A traditional send-off for the soldiers will conclude the weekend’s events.
Saturday 7 AM – 5 PM; Sunday 8 AM – 3 PM.
