Inspired by the rhythm and harmonies of jazz while on a concert tour in the U.S., Maurice Ravel composed his Concerto for Piano in G major, conducting the premiere performance in 1932. In her second solo appearance with the CWSO, Molly Roseman, soloist, chamber musician, collaborative pianist, and professor of piano at UW-Stevens Point, will perform this work known for its percussiveness and lush melodies. Felix Mendelssohn’s ‘Reformation’ Symphony was written in commemoration of the 300th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, and its first performance in 1832 was given ‘in aid of the orchestra’s benevolent fund.’Program – Ludwig van Beethoven – Leonore Overture No. 3, op. 72b Maurice Ravel – Concerto for Piano in G major, Molly Roseman, piano Felix Mendelssohn – Symphony No. 5, op. 107, D major “Reformation” – See more at: http://www.cwso.org/concerts/event_69d31b13542b/#sthash.R8gU7P9b.dpuf
