Fall is what many locals believe is the best time to be on Madeline Island. The third weekend in October is always Fall Fest on Madeline Island. This is a festive time for families to take advantage of the last good weather of the season and enjoy the vivid fall colors on a spectacular island setting.
Among the many family friendly events that take place during Fall Fest are pumpkin decorating, a children’s costume parade, face painting, clowns and much more.
For the adults, we have numerous street vendors with everything from Wapples, which are waffles filled with apple cheese cake and caramel sauce, to handcarved wooden spoons, to locally crafted wares from jewelry makers and many of the local artisans.
Last fall, to the great delight of all involved, we featured a number of interactive events. Easily the most involving and intriguing was the making of apple cider using a bicycle-powered cider press and apples gathered from all over the island. Kids stood in line right up to 7 p.m. for a chance to ride that bike! And enough cider was made to send a bottle home with all who participated. You could also take part in making hand made soap at Madeline Island Candles. Renee’ Michelletti, basket maker extraordinaire, set up shop to demonstrate how to weave a basket in front of Dockside Gifts. We hope to have these and more to add to the enjoyment of the day this fall on Madeline Island.
