September 11th, 2001 was a day that many of us won’t forget. The day can be a somber one, it can be difficult to process the tragedy of 9/11 and the lives that were lost that day. However, some individuals have taken it upon themselves to create spaces where we can remember those lives, as well as the first responders who put their lives on the line for others. Gordon and Kathy Haberman, along with their daughter, Julie Haberman, have done just that in Washington County, Wisconsin.
After tragically losing their daughter, Andrea, on September 11th while on a business trip to New York the family decided to take their grief and make something positive out of it. Their idea was to create a place where the lives lost on that tragic day, were not forgotten.
Washington County is home to the beautiful 9/11 Memorial thanks to the help of community members. Between the time and funding the community offered, this memorial is now a space where people can not only learn about that day but also feel a sense of pride in the strength and resilience of American citizens.
