Generational Farming: Wisconsin’s Dairy Industry

Generational Farming: Wisconsin’s Dairy Industry

Portage County is home to a sixth generation family run farm, Feltz Farm. Now owned by Jake and Jared Feltz, the farm has been a part of the family for over 100 years and has an abundant amount of history that makes Feltz Farm what it is today.

In this short episode, we follow the family history starting from George, the grandfather of Jake and Jared, to their parents and discuss how they have been able to keep this farm running in the heart of Portage County for many generations. We also dive into the importance of the dairy industry and how it plays a role not only in this farm but in farms across Wisconsin.

And we can’t head to a dairy farm without spending sometime learning about the cheesemaking process and how it has evolved over the years. We get an insider's look at how technology has changed the way cheese is made and why it makes a difference in this farm's cheese store in Portage County!
