Frank Lloyd Wright | Know Your Wisconsin

February 29, 2024

When you think of Wisconsin historical icons, the father of modern architecture probably comes to mind. Frank Lloyd Wright was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin in 1867 and his architectural philosophies are credited to changing the way humans think about living in their home environments. Amanda Thurmann-Ward from the Johnson Foundation at Wingspread Prairie Home explains, “A lot of control and manipulation [went] into his buildings. He wants you to feel and live in his homes a certain way. He wants you to feel uncomfortable and claustrophobic when the ceilings are low, and he wants you to get out into the spaces that open up.” If you want to see examples of his work for yourself, you can take a self-guided driving tour on Wisconsin’s ‘Frank Lloyd Wright Trail’!
