Steeped in rich history, Ishnala Supper Club dates back to the early 19th century. The land on which Ishnala stands was originally a ceremonial ground for the Winnebago Indians, reflecting its deep-rooted significance in the Wisconsin Dells region. “Ishnala,” derived from the Winnebago language, means “by itself alone,” symbolizing the surrounding serene and secluded setting treasured by every guest.
Pioneer settlers purchased the land from the Winnebago tribe in 1826, establishing a log cabin trading post. In 1909, the Coleman family purchased the post and transformed it into a log home, although 1953 marked its biggest transformation yet. The Hoffman Brothers acquired the property with a grand vision–to create a supper club that would blend fine dining with the breathtaking landscapes of Mirror Lake State Park.
To preserve the breathtaking scenery and a few of the building’s original features–including the 1909 Coleman family fireplace–the Hoffman Brothers thoughtfully designed Ishnala to intertwine with its stunning surroundings. Bob Prosser, the current owner of Ishnala, keeps the vision and supper club tradition alive today, celebrating both its storied past and vibrant present.
