Wisconsin’s bed and breakfasts are as unique as the innkeepers who serve their guests so well. If you’ve never ventured out beyond the typical hotel, you’re in for a surprise. Our crew set out to discover some of the state’ most unique B&Bs while filming our recent “The Best Way to Stay—Wisconsin’s Bed & Breakfasts” episode. Here’s what else we uncovered about Wisconsin’s thriving B&B scene:
They are incredibly diverse in aesthetics, architecture and offerings.
Some are ultra contemporary and yet others are historic. Some are estates and others are cabins. You can find them in the middle of a bustling city next to theater districts and sushi bars as well as in rural areas where guests can experience life on a working farm. You’ll see beautiful sunrises, beautiful cattle mooing in the background, beautiful everything really. Love to golf? We stayed at a B&B that had its own golf course on the property, which also happened to be less than a mile from Whistling Straits.
The hospitality is second to none.
When your miles from home, feeling comfortable and taken care of is a pretty crucial part of any vacation. The guest service we experienced at all five bed and breakfasts we filmed at in Wisconsin was incredible. The innkeepers will give you the lay of the land at their B&B, provide suggestions for dining and recreational fun in the area and do an excellent job keeping the rooms and common areas clean and tidy. One of the innkeepers we met with even arranged for our crew to go dogsledding through the northwoods while we were staying in town.
The food is de-li-cious.
Our crew loved the diversity of the B&Bs. Some of us preferred the modern venues in the downtown districts while others found the rural settings to be more inviting. We each had our own preferences but there is one thing we could all agree on: The food served at each place was to die for. From fresh strawberries and baked goods at breakfast to wine and cheese platters during the afternoon, nothing beats local eats and home cooked meals.
So how does one discover these amazing places? A fantastic resource to find a quality bed and breakfast is the Wisconsin Bed and Breakfast Association (WBBA). The WBBA requires all member B&Bs to meet certain standards and if they’re not up to snuff, they’re not on the WBBA website.
