For the explorers, the trails at Hartman Creek State Park do not disappoint, with over 10 miles of varied trails and 3 miles of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, crossing through both Waupaca and Portage counties.
The parks here in Waupaca offer visitors an opportunity to reconnect with the great outdoors, with access to several incredible lakes and rivers, picturesque natural scenery, and a wide variety of camp sites for the casual camper to the more adventurous.
Calling All Athletes!
Waupaca is also a place for those with a hunger for more athletic endeavors. The area triathlon challenges competitors each year in August, with a half-mile swim, 20k bike and a 5k run, and you can even substitute kayaking for the swim.
The lakes and rivers here are perfect for kayaking – even if it’s not for competition.
No kayak? No problem.
Adventure Outfitters has affordable rentals for kayaks… paddleboards… bikes and more… as well as offering guided experiences for those who are new to the area.
From the waterways to the fairways… spend a morning or afternoon at Par 4 Resort, where golfers of all skill levels can refine their game on an 18-hole championship course, nestled among the natural beauty of the area.
Oh… and make sure to *swing by* their bistro after for a delicious handcrafted burger or a signature cocktail.
And the Fun Continues Year Round
When the weather turns colder, visitors can take a hike at several gorgeous locations, like here at the historic Red Mill along the Crystal River… and don’t forget to stop in the gift shop or grab some delicious ice cream before you go.
And in the winter, you can strap on those snow shoes and head back to Hartman Creek… or hit the ice at the expo center… and if you’re looking to try your hand at something new… Stop by the Waupaca Curling Club. They’re always ready to lend a helping hand – or brush.
