Art Roars to Life in Marshfield’s Jurustic Park

Discover Wisconsin

June 12, 2019

Near the center of the state, you’ll find one of Wisconsin’s most unique roadside attractions: Jurustic Park. For more than 25 years, this quirky stop has delighted visitors to the Marshfield area with iron-clad creatures, great and small, strewn throughout a lush park.

Jurustic Park curator Clyde Wynia endearingly refers to himself as an amateur paleontologist, telling stories of excavating the metal creatures from the nearby McMillan Marsh. But, truth be told, Wynia and his larger-than-life imagination, are the architects of these creations, ranging from teeny-tiny to 20-feet tall.

It won’t cost you anything to explore the hundreds of works of art at Jurustic Park. And while you could take a self-guided tour, you won’t want to miss Wynia’s wry and amusing narration of the park. If you’re smitten with a critter, Clyde has plenty for sale to take home as a reminder of your visit to this charmingly quirky attraction.

Before you go, make sure to stop by the Hobbit House, where Clyde’s wife, Nancy, devotes her time to creating and selling beautiful jewelry, woven goods and incredible fused glass pieces.

When you’re done exploring Jurustic Park, be sure to look for other relics around the city of Marshfield. Over the years, Wynia has fashioned and donated many sculptures for display in parks, schools and street corners to be enjoyed by everyone.
