Verona: Nature’s Caretaker (Segment)
Verona: Nature’s Caretaker (Segment)
Verona has a long and unique history devoted to the region’s nature and wildlife. In 1983, Linda and Gene Farley purchased land and built a house in Verona and in their early residency, opened their home for meetings and retreats to promote social justice. By 2009, the Estate formally became the Farley Center for Peace, Justice, and Sustainability. The Center is rooted in the goal to teach people about sustainable environmental practices and is devoted to bringing justice to all different facets of life. Of the vast 43 acres of the Center, 23 belong to a cemetery known as the Natural Path Sanctuary. Not only that, but the Farley Center is home to Dane County’s only Farm incubator. The Farm prides itself on the fact that although it has great success today, it has a humble history, having begun as an informal community gardening project, employing much of the Hmong population in Verona. The Farley Center is also home to the Bee Keeper Pilot program, attracting people who want to learn about Bee Keeping and witness the process beginning from empty hives to the honey extraction process. Verona is also home to the beautiful Ice Age National Scenic Trail which is primarily utilized for foot travel. The trail showcases Wisconsin’s world-renowned wildlife features, primarily being maintained by hardworking volunteers. The Ice Age Trail presents the perfect experience for hiking and enjoying the solitude of the great outdoors, and several visitors from around the world even make an annual challenge of completing the entire path in one go. Whether it be for enjoying the scenic nature of Wisconsin, indulging in delicious food and beverages, or touring the successful businesses rooted in the region, Verona is truly the place for residents and visitors to have great experiences and build memories.
