Oak Creek – Reinvented and On the Rise

February 29, 2024

Just south of Milwaukee lies a small community that’s grown a lot over the past few years and has begun to transform in a big way. Oak Creek has been reinvented, and you don’t have to look too far to see just how much as changed. We spend a lot of time in their new downtown hub, the Drexel Town Square, where you can find the community collaborating and celebrating no matter the season. Mariah gets to have some fun with Miko at Dog Day in the square, as well as at their annual Winterfest, with Art Below Zero carving up ice like you’ve never seen before. Eric also sits down for a chat with Mayor Dan over an iced tea in the square, and gets an inside perspective on all of Oak Creek’s improvements.

However, there’s plenty going on outside the square in Oak Creek. We stop at Valentine Coffee’s brand new cafe’ that offers everything from great drinks to delicious food, as well as a staple that’s been serving excellent Italian cuisine for 16 years here throughout the changes, Trattoria di Carlo. Of course, Eric had to check out Wisconsin’s first IKEA that opened up in Oak Creek during the Spring of 2018, with rooms upon rooms of inspiration for home building. As well as the new City 13 Escape Rooms, where Eric finds his true calling as a hero of the city. And amongst this change, the city stayed focused on what was important to them and their patrons; doing right by the community and its natural environment. At the heart of that is their new City Hall and library, and right outside it’s doors is the Emerald Preserve. Both are free and open to the public, offering so much for the entire natural community and those that live within it. Along with the Emerald Preserve, they have Abendschein Park, as well as Lake Vista Park, where Eric grabs a beer and jams out at the Oak Creek Beer Garden.

It’s pretty incredible to realize what used to be in the place of a lot these new spots in the city, and what they’ve been able to do with the land they have. You’ve probably heard of Oak Creek and what it used to be, but what you might not know is that this city has been completely reinvented, and is on the rise.
