Restoration and Revival

Step inside the story of one of Washington County’s most historic landmarks—the Frisby House. Since the Tower Heritage Center took ownership in 2023, a remarkable restoration effort has been underway. What once stood as a silent witness to more than a century and a half of history is now coming alive through a $175,000 project dedicated to honoring its past while preparing it for the future.

A skilled restoration team is peeling back layers of time to reveal the exquisite craftsmanship of this 1865 cream city brick treasure. Every detail matters. To restore the original wood windows, traditional glazing techniques and linseed oil paint are being used to preserve these historic features so they not only look authentic but also stand the test of time.

Behind the scenes, preservation experts are uncovering hidden architectural gems by removing later modifications that masked the house’s true character. The goal? To transform the first floor into a vibrant glimpse of 19th-century life, inviting visitors to step inside and fully immerse themselves in history.

For the Heritage Center, it’s all about reviving a living piece of West Bend’s heritage—a place where past and present connect, inspire, and welcome everyone.
