It’s officially that time of year, and we’re sharing all the holiday cheer happening across Wisconsin counties! From north to south, communities are lighting up with festive downtown celebrations and unique shopping experiences you won’t want to miss. Gather your family and friends, and make this season one to remember with a little holiday magic in every corner of the state!

Oneida County: Lights of the Northwoods

Begin your holiday season Up North in Oneida County with the magical Lights of the Northwoods at Hodag Park in Rhinelander. Running every night from December 1 through New Year’s Day, 5 to 9 p.m., this free event lights up the park with dazzling displays, cozy bonfires, and weekend highlights like a visit from Santa. Stick around for the spectacular fireworks show on January 1, a perfect way to ring in the New Year!

Bundle up and enjoy walking or driving through the beautiful light tunnels while sipping on hot cocoa. Don’t forget, this event is all about community spirit, so food and monetary donations are warmly welcomed. All donations support local food pantries and nonprofits that need a little extra holiday cheer.

While you’re in town, take a stroll down charming Brown Street downtown, filled with twinkling storefronts calling your name! Whether you’re shopping or snuggling by the fire, Lights of the Northwoods is a festive celebration that brings everyone together. Rock County: Rotary Botanical Gardens

Head south for some more holiday magic at Rock County’s beloved Rotary Botanical Gardens! This year marks the 29th Annual Holiday Light Show, lighting up 20 acres of gorgeous gardens with over 2 million sparkling lights in Janesville. From November 28 through January 3, this walk-through wonderland features incredible themed light displays, festive music, hot cocoa, and even carolers to get you in the spirit.

New this year is an indoor Christmas Market where you can shop for unique artisan gifts, grab seasonal treats, and even snap a photo with Santa. It’s an unforgettable experience for families, friends, and anyone who can’t get enough of the holiday season. 

What makes this event even more special? All proceeds help support the Gardens’ mission to enrich lives through horticulture, beauty, and education, so every ticket helps keep the magic growing. What are you waiting for? Get your tickets, bring your loved ones, and make some merry memories at one of the state’s top holiday destinations.

Ozaukee County: The Shops of Cedar Creek Settlement

Aside from the festive celebrations and spectacular light displays, it’s definitely shopping season, and we’ve found just the perfect spot for you! Head to Ozaukee County’s historic Cedarburg, where The Shops of Cedar Creek Settlement await. Tucked inside a beautifully restored 1864 woolen mill, this one-of-a-kind destination boasts over 20 boutiques, specialty shops, cozy cafés, and restaurants, all decorated in festive holiday cheer. 

You’re invited to join Five Festive Friday Eves on November 21 and 28, and December 5, 12, and 19. Each night offers something special! It all starts with the signature Christmas Showcase, featuring handcrafted gifts, live music, cider, and tasty treats. The following Friday is all about welcoming loved ones home for the holidays with family-friendly crafts and delicious samples.

Then, in December, celebrate a magical Santa’s Workshop with visits from Santa and caroling. Not to mention, an adults-only festive shopping night complete with complimentary treats and local high school choral performances. And finally, embrace the holiday rush with last-minute gift shopping, as live bands set the tone in the background.

Waukesha County: German Christmas Market

The holiday shopping continues in Waukesha County. Welcome to the German Christmas Market of Oconomowoc, celebrating 14 amazing years! The market runs Thanksgiving weekend, from Wednesday, November 26, through Sunday, November 30, with vendor tents open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, plus until 4 p.m. on Sunday. 

When you arrive, you’ll be stepping into a little slice of Europe right here in Wisconsin. Discover tents full of authentic German goodies, from bratwursts and fresh pastries to roasted nuts and that classic holiday favorite, warm Glühwein. And the handcrafted gifts? They’re one-of-a-kind, with everything from woodcarvings and Polish pottery to soft alpaca scarves and unique holiday décor.

Bringing the family? The Santa Tent is a must-visit, where you get to take photos with Santa and decorate cookies. And if you’re simply looking for a night out, the indoor Biergarten offers a great spot to sip on yummy German beer and maybe even test your strength in the stein-holding contest. Join all the festivities this year at one of the most charming markets in the Midwest.
