Generations of Tradition at the Lake Chippewa Flowage | S35 Ep. 11

February 29, 2024

Up at the Chippewa Flowage, near Hayward, Wisconsin; Eric Paulsen vacations in northwoods style from UTV’ing through mud pits, to visiting campers while sharing their fire, to going to a Powwow at The Landing Resort, to fishing for muskie in the same waters as the largest on
record was caught. The Chippewa Flowage Resorts are run by generational owners as they share this gorgeous and peaceful shoreline with their generational visitors who return each year in search for those precious memories as they keep traditions alive.

Join us as we visit the area’s silent sports and experience a kayaker’s paradise and the buck moon. Eric also endeavors into snowmobiling out on the frozen flowage! And luckily he has a cozy cabin to warm up in. The kind families around here, many of which are resort owners themselves, share tips with us on the best ways to enjoy the area and even teach us about the rich history of these waters. A fishing guide professional will show Eric the ropes of muskie fishing and Eric will get his shot at casting.

When you aren’t on the water you can visit downtown Hayward where you can find candy shops, a bookstore, restaurants, and local lumberjack shows where professionals wield chainsaws and climb heights taller than telephone poles. When you get peckish you can say hi to Tony at the R&R for breakfast or a burger or pick up an ice cream from Becky and Brad at Johnson’s. After all this fun you can hop on a boat and see some fall colors surround you as you drift on the water. Then as the sun goes down you can be covered in stars as bullfrogs and coyotes fill your ears. This will not be a vacation that Eric soon forgets.
