In Wisconsin, We Race Snowmobiles on the Open Water | Know Your Wisconsin
The snowmobile enthusiasts of Wisconsin have embraced a sport called WaterX (pronounced “water cross”), which involves taking a snowmobile out of winter, bringing it into the summer and racing it on the open water. In 1977, the first annual World Championship of Snowmobile WaterX was held in Grantsburg Wisconsin, and for some Wisconsin families, watercross events have become a summer tradition. “My father’s been racing since the early 90s, so I kind of grew up around it. It’s just a lot of comradery, just a lot of fun, a very family-based sport,” shared Aaron Vowles member of the International WaterX Association.
