Winding Down the Wolf
With over 200 miles of twists and turns, the Wolf River is one of the longest in Wisconsin. The communities of Langlade County, the Menominee Nation, Shawano and Fremont are all found along the river, but each has its own unique activities perfect for adventurers and vacationers alike. Grab a paddle and experience a heart-pounding rafting trip or enjoy a peaceful horseback ride through the Nicolet National Forest in Langlade County. Learn about the importance of the Wolf River’s sturgeon population to the Menominee people at the annual sturgeon feast and pow wow. Shawano is a great place for all kinds of outdoor activities both on and off the water, including a bike tour that take you past the area’s colorful barn quilts. Finally, kick back and relax in Fremont at one of the many sandbars or beaches or grab a rod and reel and see if you have any luck in the White Bass Capital of the World.
