Recognized as the hub of new opportunities, Watertown, in Jefferson County, is a place of endless possibilities. By teaming up with the Redevelopment Authority, Watertown has been able to act on this exponential potential.

Together, they formed the Watertown downtown development project that is designed to be a catalyst for transformative change, not only for Main Street, but also for the Historical District. All in all, with their team efforts, they’ve invested over $13 million in the downtown block alone.

In addition to these dedicated investments, the Redevelopment Authority, using federal grant money, created a revolving loan program. This program has been made available to downtown property owners. By implementing this program, all-new improvements have been unlocked for downtown Watertown.

Project Goals

As a part of the Watertown downtown development project, many project goals fuel the transformative initiative. Looking to the Redevelopment Authority, their primary goal is to incentivize and facilitate property owners to invest in Main Street, while also improving other buildings. Through the revolving loan program, these local owners have been able to do just that–making Main Street a true Jefferson County marvel.

For Watertown, the local community strives to create more places, where people want to be–along the Rock River. Open spaces allow the community to gather together and make unforgettable memories amidst the scenery. Speaking of memories, another important goal is to always honor the past, while looking forward to the bright future ahead.

Community Impact

With these dedicated efforts by the city of Watertown and the Redevelopment Authority, the community has been transformed and continues to thrive today. Throughout the downtown district, many new, unique features directly impact and benefit the community as a whole.

First and one of the most impactful features is the Bentzin Family Town Square. This designated space not only promotes communal activities, but also provides substantial economic benefits to the local, surrounding businesses.

Secondly, the Riverwalk is right along the Rock River–the focal point of the community. Recently completed, the Riverwalk provides locals and visitors alike with an expansive and extraordinary loop. From the Main Street bridge to the Milwaukee Street Bridge, the loop showcases the scenery from the East and West sides of the river.

In addition to the Riverwalk, the Watertown Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Department offers kayaks and stand up paddle boards to float along the Rock River. They have also made an ADA accessible boat launch, with an adjoining fishing dock, supporting each and every adventure.

Back in the city center, they’ve constructed a splash pad, the ultimate summer hotspot. Nearby, the performance plaza houses an astonishing outdoor amphitheater, putting on concerts big and small–all for the greater community of Jefferson County.

Watertown, in Jefferson County, is truly a marvel, thriving among the city’s transformation. Because of the dedicated efforts of the city and Redevelopment Authority, downtown Watertown has been developed into a charming, community-centered destination. A visit to downtown Watertown is well worthwhile.
