If you’re more of a low-key lake life person, there is a sandy beach, complete with chairs ready for you to lay on all day long! You can head out to the waters when you need to cool off…or grab one of their canoes and begin your journey right on Duck Lake. Spend the day exploring one of the largest chains of inland lakes in the world!Â
If you’re up for a day trip filled with kayaking, don’t fret…there are more than 1,300 lakes and 73 rivers in the county making for a large variety of opportunities to find your favorite trip. Hiking and Biking

Only minutes from the resort is the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Unplug from the rest of the world and head out to explore a portion of the forest, being that it covers more than 1.5 million acres, you can’t get bored! Whether you’re looking to explore by bike, horse, or foot…the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is extremely breathtaking and will make for a great day trip.
The Nicolet North Trail is the perfect stop for mountain biking trails and is part of the Nicolet National Forest. (See map here) It also connects to the Anvil Lake Trail, where there are rolling paths for those from beginner to experts. (See map here)Â
For hikers looking to explore the rolling terrain and a variety of wildlife, check out the Hidden Lakes Trail. This 13-mile trail meanders around several small lakes. Be sure to bring your map along, so you don’t get lost along the way! (See map here)
Fishing & Birding

One would say if you’re going to the Northwoods, you probably love the great outdoors. Right? Well at Wild Eagle Lodge, you are right in the mix of a great location for birding and a handy spot to hop on the chain of lakes for days filled with fishing.
One birding hot spot in Eagle River is the Franklin Lake Trail. This trail is beautiful, serene, and mixed with trees that are more than 400 years old, which makes for the perfect birding location. Whether you forgot gear for your trip or you’re looking to bring home some souvenirs, there is plenty of shopping to be done in downtown Eagle River. A short five-minute drive down the road, you can find antiques, toys, and clothing. But the best part? The charming downtown. You can easily head out to walk around, find your favorite local shops, and even grab a bite to eat!
For souvenirs, you don’t want to miss the Arrow Gift Shop. A cute shop right on the downtown corridor has plenty to bring home for your little keepsake of your time spent in Eagle River. Or find your favorite antiques at Lyn’s Antiques. When you’re ready to take a break, head into grab a tasty meal or treat at one of their local restaurants.
P.S. – Any sweet tooth’s out there? Right on property at Wild Eagle Lodge is the new ice cream shop, Eagles Cone Shoppe! While you’re downtown, don’t pass by Tremblay’s Sweet Shop without stopping in (and be sure to try the homemade fudge!) If you’re needing a full meal, don’t worry there are plenty of options to choose from: Buckshots Downtown, Butch’s Pizza North, and the Craftsman American Tavern.
