Discover Wisconsin: Spiritual Wisconsin – Wisconsin’s Marian Shrines
From a towering, hilltop basilica, to a stunning shrine nestled in the bluffs, and a quiet chapel in the countryside, Wisconsin is home to three incredibly unique and reverent Marian shrines. Mariah heads to Holy Hill just outside of Milwaukee where she visits with the Carmelite friars who call the shrine home and climbs to the top of the steeple for a stunning view of the Kettle Moraine. She also joins the Bike to Mary pilgrimage, a 200-mile bike trip from Holy Hill to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse.
Jake continues on to Our Lady of Guadalupe, where he takes in the shrine’s stunning architecture, explores the 100-acre grounds and learns all about the traditions surrounding the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Jake then heads to the Green Bay area to visit the National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help. The shrine is located on the spot where Mary, the mother of Jesus, is said to have appeared to a young woman in 1859 – the only Marian apparition in the United States that has been approved by the Catholic church.
