Home to two Great Lakes, Wisconsin offers a plethora of summer paradises along the coast. We’re starting our coastal counties cruise in eastern Wisconsin, following the shores of Lake Michigan.

First stop: Racine County

Racine County, nestled along Lake Michigan, has summertime fun for everyone. Samuel Myers Park is a must for nature lovers, with 7 acres full of activities, from birding to picnicking. History buffs, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Check out Wind Point Lighthouse on the National Register of Historic Places. It stands an impressive 108 feet tall, towering over the serene shoreline. From soaking up the scenery to making a splash, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy various paddle sports, from kayaking to stand-up paddle boarding.

Next stop: Sheboygan County

Sheboygan County, here we come! The shores of Sheboygan County make a pristine outdoor playground for the whole family. First, at Kohler-Andrae State Park–one of the last nature preserves along the coast of Lake Michigan–visitors can see and experience it all: sand dunes, beaches, and abundant activities like fishing. After a day of play, get into the summer spirit with an epic concert series in River Park, including live (and free!) entertainment and tasty foods.

Last stop: Door County

Our coastal counties cruise of Lake Michigan wouldn’t be complete without stopping by Door County–one of the most iconic counties in the state. Along the drive, cruise along the Door County Coastal Byway, accounting for a few detours along the way–like Peninsula State Park. The views from land don’t do the coast enough justice…cut through the waves on a boating adventure like no other.

Lake Superior Counties

Our second spot, as we continue our coastal counties cruise, leads us to northern Wisconsin, where the shores of Lake Superior hold amazing views and more epic adventures.

Up first: Ashland County

Ashland County is beaming with beauty, especially during the summertime. Can’t get enough views of the coast? Check out Penokee Scenic Overlook–it’s truly breathtaking. While the views are certainly gorgeous, there’s nothing like gearing up and heading out on a fishing excursion on Lake Superior’s Chequamegon Bay–a world-class fishery.

Up next: Bayfield County

From fishing in Ashland County to setting the sails in Bayfield County, our cruise isn’t over just yet! Offering a little taste of everything, including island life, Bayfield County is a unique summer escape. Venture over to the Apostle Islands for an unforgettable experience, such as weaving through sea caves! Make even more memories with your crew this summer and embark on a sailing expedition. Or, if you’re looking to stay dry, travel along the Wisconsin Lake Superior Scenic Byway

Even though our cruise of Wisconsin’s coastal counties is nearing its end, there’s still time to plan your summer escape to these dreamy destinations on the shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. Start planning your getaway today!
