Rib Mountain State Park

This state park is home to a billion-year-old hill and is known as one of the oldest geological formations on the earth! Rib Mountain State Park isn’t just known for its hiking trails and views, but it also boasts a large amount of activities for any outdoor enthusiast to enjoy year-round. Plus, did you know that this mountain is actually known to be one of the highest points in Wisconsin?
Open year-round, Rib Mountain offers plenty of fun to be had but it’s fundamentally known for their amazing biking and hiking trails throughout the park. There are 13 miles of trails throughout (8 that are suitable for those with disabilities) and takes you through all different areas of the park. One thing that all visitors and community members are huge fans of is the observation tower. This 60-foot tower gives a birds-eye view of all of the surrounding areas including Wausau and the rolling waters of the Wisconsin River. 
In the winter, you can’t miss out on the extravagant snowshoeing and skiing opportunities! Granite Peak Ski Area is on the other side of the mountain offering some of the best skiing in the state. When you live here, make sure to buy a season pass to enjoy the fun all winter long and be able to hit the ski-lift whenever the fresh snow starts to fall. 
In the fall, you must take advantage of the scenic chairlift rides (or hike to the top) and take in all of the views of the fall foliage surrounding central Wisconsin. When you get to the top, you can take your time enjoying nature, exploring the park, and taking in some of the best views you can catch across Wisconsin all year long! And we can’t forget to mention that Rib Mountain is also home to the Rib Mountain Golf Course. Come spring and summer, this beautiful course overlooks this amazing state park and ski area. It is a great course to get out and play a quick nine hole game of golf or to head out on the driving range to get some practice in.
