Many ice fishermen will tell you fishing on a frozen lake is a lot harder than on open water, but that doesn’t stop folks from enjoying the sport year after year. Nearly a quarter of all fish caught in Wisconsin each year are hooked through the ice.

About 20 minutes east of St. Germain is another Northwoods town known for snowmobiling: Eagle River attracts snowmobile enthusiasts from all over the country for fun and excitement on the snow-covered landscape—not to mention a little competition. The World Championship Derby Track in Eagle River has hosted the World Championship Snowmobile Derby every year since 1966. This world-famous event has proven to be a vital contribution to both the tourism and economic health of the snowmobile community and the Northwoods area. <br /><br />The track was recently sold to three longtime snowmobile enthusiasts and industry insiders, Tom Anderson, Russ Davis and Craig Marchbank. As passionate fans of the sport, the new team plans to restore the over 30-acre property to its former glory and host year-round events in addition to the World Championship Derby. With the promise of a revitalized venue, the city hopes this year’s 56th championship event will be one to remember.

What happens when you challenge three Wisconsin chefs to create three different dishes with the same Variety of Cheese? Magic! In this delicious episode of Discover Wisconsin, we visited the Lakely Restaurant in Eau Claire and tasked Chef Nathan Berg with The Kammerude Gouda Challenge using Comstock Creamery's signature cheese.<br />Then we headed to Viroqua to issue Chef Luke Zahm at the Driftless Cafe the Blue Cheese challenge, having him use Sid Cook's 'favorite cheese', Glacier Penta Creme Blue Cheese. <br />Finally, it was up to Chef Adam Siegel of Lake Park Bistro in Milwaukee to tackle a Wisconsin original, Widmer's aged Brick cheese, and Brick Cheese spread! Creating three incredible dishes which will get cooks and chefs around the state thinking out-of-the-box with new ideas for using award-winning Wisconsin Specialty cheeses!
