A Long-Standing Legacy

The Red Clay Classic all began in 1976 with the Red Clay Invitational, held with very limited resources—no prize money, no guard rails, and just two sections of bleachers. From the start, local banks, the chamber of commerce, and dedicated volunteers came together to support ABC Raceway.

The venue now boasts over 50 years of racing history, featuring father-son duos and multi-generational families where grandparents, uncles, and kids all share the passion and carry on the tradition. Each year, the event draws around 5,000 spectators, making it much more than a race. It’s a true family celebration and community gathering.

Powered by Volunteers and Community Spirit

Without the dedicated local volunteers and the tight-knit community of Ashland, Wisconsin, ABC Raceway and the Red Clay Classic simply wouldn’t exist. The raceway operates as a close community of volunteers who personally know all the racers and their families. Volunteerism is truly the heart of the track, with 50 to 60 volunteers showing up every Saturday night.

What started out as a group mostly made up of men has grown to include women and children, turning race nights into a genuine family affair. Passion, commitment, and camaraderie connect volunteers and racers alike, creating a unique bond that fuels the sport and the event’s ongoing success.
