The Glacial River Trail runs right through Johnson Creek and is free from intense traffic, making it a desirable trail for the best cycling experience.<br /><br />The Aztalan State Park (https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/aztalan) is located not far from Johnson Creek, and encloses the ancient town of Aztalan. The State Park was created to preserve the remnants of Aztalan, which was established 1000 years ago as Wisconsin’s first town. Aztalan State Park is an alluring destination for locals and visitors, with beautiful land to explore and an array of events that take place all year round. Upheld by the Friends of Aztalan State Park (www.aztalanfriends.org), the park hosts an array of educational and exciting events for visitors, consisting of celebrations of the Native American culture and history of the site. Ho-Chunk dancers often pay a visit to the site and perform, sharing their traditions with visitors.<br /><br />Founders Float is an enticing event hosted by the Johnson Creek Historical Society, offering participants a historically engaging, unique experience. The event is a recreation of the trip of Tim Johnson, the founder of Johnson Creek who arrived in the 1830s. It’s the holiday season and Johnson Creek knows just how to celebrate! Twinkling lights, Santa Claus and locally grown Christmas trees bring Jefferson County locals together for some Christmas warmth at Johnson Creek’s Christmas in the Village. A quaint, yet popular celebration that highlights local nonprofits and businesses. <br /><br />The event hosts a range of activities including reindeer games, gingerbread house making, sleigh rides and quality time with Santa. Shopping is also a must at this event. Something Special from Wisconsin hosts a Holiday Market to promote Wisconsin businesses and provide locals with a jolly shopping experience. In need of an updated schooling space for their fifth through twelfth-grade students, leaders with the Johnson Creek School District opted for a domed design - an approach thought to be safer and more sustainable. The school’s unique layout consists of five interconnected Monolithic Domes, the first of its kind in Wisconsin and the second full-dome school in the Midwest. Three domes are 140 feet in diameter, while the other two are 160 feet in diameter. Adding to the efficiency and flexibility of the dome-style classrooms, the interior walls can be rearranged and moved to work with each learning space. The spherical structures ultimately cost 20 percent less than building a traditional school.
