Endless Shores of Wisconsin: Lake Winnebago Ecosystem (Segment)
Endless Shores of Wisconsin: Lake Winnebago Ecosystem
The three counties that surround Wisconsin’s biggest inland lake show us what the Lake Winnebago ecosystem means to them.
Arguably one of the most beautiful spots in all of Wisconsin is High Cliff State Park, known for their rock formations that are over 430 million years old, and one of the most beloved hiking trails. Cliffs that are the whole reason the lakes and the entire region exists. http://www.dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/highcliff
Another unique and amazing experience that sets Lake Winnebago apart from anywhere else is its Sturgeon spearing. The annual event surrounding Sturgeon education and harvesting has become massive, originating from a tradition that dates back centuries, taught to European settlers from the Native American tribes. What may be in the most Wisconsin manner, is that the three counties surrounding the lake, along with visitors from afar, band together over this unique experience and share in the stories and traditions.
