The Hmong Wausau Festival is now the largest Hmong festival statewide annually!
Marathon County has the largest population of Hmong people per capita in the state of Wisconsin. Hmong people make up 9.1% of the Wausau population and is the third largest population of Hmong people in the US. They have been prevalent within the community since 1976, and have brought vibrant life to this central Wisconsin town!
Every year, Yee Leng Xiong, the director of the Hmong American Center, organizes the Hmong Wausau Festival which celebrates the culture and community of Hmong people. This event draws people in from all over the country, and especially the midwest, as they have dancing competitions, sporting events, food vendors, artists, fireworks and more. It serves as a reminder of the Hmong peoples’ history and heritage!
