Skijoring | Know Your Wisconsin
Wisconsin winter trails, cross country skiing, and your best K-9 friend? That’s all in store for you when spending the day skijoring. Skijoring is derived from the Norwegian word skikjøring, which means, “ski driving,” and it involves a cross-country skier being towed along by a dog on a harness. Melissa Omernick from the Wisconsin Trail Blazers Sled Dog Club explains, “It can be from just relaxing – you go out just to exercise with your dog – to a serious sport, where every skate and every pull you’re doing during the race makes a difference.” So whether you’re doing it competitively, or just want to enjoy a day in the sun with your dog, skijoring is a great winter activity to try!
