Snowkiting on the Rise | Know Your Wisconsin
Wisconsinites love their outdoor sports, especially in the winter. Madison has taken it to the next level with snowkiting. In order to snow kite, a person on skis or a snowboard holds onto a harness bar attached to lines that go up to a kite. With the help of the wind, the kite pulls them across the lake. Utilizing a massive kite to take the rider afloat, snowkiting is heavily dependent on weather conditions. Bob Cook of Kiteriders LLC explains, “It’s all wind-based. The bigger lakes are better, because the wind will spread out more, so it gives us a more consistent wind, a little bit easier to get going and to stay riding.” Snowkiting is becoming more and more popular in the Madison area, and it’s added another fun activity to the list of outdoor winter activities!
