As the leaves begin to change into vibrant colors, Chippewa County has something for everyone during the fall season! If you’re looking to surround yourself in the outdoors, Chippewa County’s got you covered with an array of adventures from tires to skis as winter approaches. There’s also plenty of fun for the entire family from orchards and candy shops for the kids, to wineries for the parents. And when you get hungry, there’s plenty of restaurants to enjoy with an outstanding view of the colorful leaves. Read on and fall in love with planning your next getaway to Chippewa County!

Outdoor Adventure

Start your outdoor adventures off right in Chippewa County and spin those tires on your ATV’s or UTV’s along the Chippewa County ATV Trail. There are a total of 23 miles of trails spiraling through the fall forests and riders are also welcome to explore the 20 miles of gravel off roads nearby the main trail. Along the way, these trails will bring you by small lakes, ponds, and look outs to really take in the beautiful fall colors surrounding the county. But there’s more than just ATV trails, throughout the county there are several bike trails that will wind you through the hills and valleys. Click here to check out a map!

Explore the outdoors by foot and hike in the most iconic trails in Chippewa County, especially during the fall! To name a few, the Ice Age Trail will weave you through the wonderful wilderness scattered with still and peaceful lakes. Another trail to be sure and check out is the Old Abe State Trail. This 19.5-mile trail follows a once railroad grade that traverses along tall towering trees, offering prime views especially in autumn of the vibrant leaves.

As the first snowflake falls, get ready to jump onto skis, either on your snowmobile or slip into a pair of cross-country skis if that is more your style! Family Fun

Let the family fun begin in Chippewa County along the scenic routes to your fun-filled activities! For 16 miles of amazing views of the fall foliage, take the Chippewa River Tour through the quaint downtown of Chippewa Falls to the Chippewa River, Lake Wissota and Xcel Energy’s Jim Falls Hydropower Plant, home of the War Eagle, Old Abe! Next stop, Connell’s Family Orchard! This family orchard famously grows 30 types of apples each having an unique flavor from tart to sweet. But they grow more than just amazing apples, they grow raspberries, blueberries, plums, and to fit the season, pumpkins you can pick right from the patch! And during the fall season, from September to October, they offer wagon rides around the orchard to admire the natural scenery.

If you’re bringing the kiddos along with you on your trip, be sure to check out the Chippewa Candy Shop for the tastiest treats of all! They have all sorts of candies, chocolates, and melt-in-your-mouth ice cream. Once you get your treats, enjoy their flavor with the colorful fall leaves in view. And just for the adults, visit River Bend Winery & Distillery, offering their own tasting room to find a wine you love. And once you’ve found it, they have a beautiful patio area to sit back, relax, and take in all the views with fresh crisp air.

After a long day of exploration and family fun, Chippewa County has got you covered to enjoy a delicious meal while relaxing with a view of prime autumn landscapes. Be sure to make a visit to The View on Lake Wissota, open seven days a week serving a variety of foods from appetizers, burgers, homemade pizza, and much more. The best part? You can enjoy your meal right outside on their huge outdoor deck right on the shores of Lake Wissota. 

Another restaurant with a breathtaking view of Lake Wissota, especially during the fall, is Wissota High Shores Supper Club, who take pride in their Wisconsin Supper Club serving dishes such as Friday fish frys, classic sandwiches, and steaks. To add more to the feel, they have 20 different taps of Wisconsin craft beer and signature cocktails like the iconic old-fashioned. Enjoy your meal and drinks on their extensive patio for the perfect fall setting.

Last but not least, dine at The Edge Pub & Eatery for dinner with a view of Lake Wissota and the colorful fall foliage. Their menu includes several appetizers, greens, burgers, sandwiches, and signature edge pizzas. They also have daily specials Monday through Saturday that you won’t want to miss! And the view? It’s one that you must see for yourself! Enjoy it from the outdoor deck or on their cozy patio.

Chippewa County surely has something for everyone to love during the fall season! Whether that’s getting outdoors to adventure on tires, by foot, or on skis as the seasons begin to change, there is fun for everyone. Not only are the outdoor adventures endless, there’s also plenty of fun for the entire family to have like visiting orchards. And don’t forget about swinging into the candy shop for the kids.
