A story that could only be told in Kenosha County, the Kenosha Comets were one of the four original teams of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) established in 1943, during World War II. The league was created as a way to keep baseball alive while men were off fighting in the war. The Comets played their home games at Simmons Field, a historic stadium built in the 1920s. <br /><br />The league faced discrimination and sexism, with many people believing that women were not capable of playing baseball at a professional level. Kenosha was one of the four original cities in the US that allowed women to form their own team and join the league, solidifying their support for the future of athletics. The women of the AAGPBL proved themselves as skilled athletes and drew large crowds to their games. <br /><br />In 1992, the movie "A League of Their Own" brought the story of the AAGPBL to a wider audience, and helped the Kenosha Comets' be remembered in American history. Now, over 80 years after the league was established, the AAGPBL reunion will be held at Simmons Field in Kenosha, the same stadium where the Comets played their home games. The event has the opportunity to bring together former players who played for the Comets and current high school and college level teams in baseball and softball alike. The Comets will get the chance to see one another again in a place that they once changed history.
